Christmas Paper Crafts

This festive time of year gives us the opportunity to use Christmas Paper Crafts to decorate our home, tree and table and to make cards and create wonderful gifts.

We all look forward to this special holiday and it can be even more enjoyable if we take time during the busy preparations to relax and enjoy the simple pleasure of paper crafting.

Christmas provides us with plenty of potential paper crafting projects. We can make cards, tags, wrapping, ornaments, decorations and gifts.

Paper Christmas Decorations

If you choose to decorate your home with paper decorations you can create a beautiful and inexpensive look. The advantage of using Christmas paper crafts and creating your own decorations is you can choose your style and color scheme. As your basic material is paper your decorations need not be expensive, and if packed carefully they can be reused or you could choose a new theme each year and create new decorations.

  • You could choose the traditional rich Christmas colors of red, green and gold and complement your paper decorations with natural foliage - pine, holly and mistletoe.
  • A shabby chic look can be achieved by using pale muted colors. Paper crafted decorations created from vintage papers and sheet music would work perfectly with this theme.
  • The Victorians decorated their homes with paper. Use nostalgic whimsical images in your decorations to create a Victorian style Christmas.
  • If you like a country style combine your papers with natural fabrics (hessian, linens and felt). Use patterned paper - ginghams, stripes and tartans and again complement your handcrafted decorations with plenty of natural foliage.

You can create bunting, garlands, wreaths, chains and table decorations in these and many other styles.

Paper Christmas Ornaments

Using Christmas paper crafts to make ornaments for the tree and home can be really rewarding.

A crafting activity that children love to get involved in is making tree ornaments. They can make simple stars, snowmen, angels, and paper cones to fill with sweet treats. You can also make more intricate folded paper balls, German paper stars and origami stars.

For the home you could make nativity scenes, paper trees, glitter houses and paper villages.

Create an advent calendar from card stock or buy one of the pre made plain wooden ones and decorate it with seasonal papers.

Christmas Scrapbooking

Christmas is the ideal time to take plenty of photographs.

You have the backdrop of your beautifully decorated home and if you are lucky snowy outdoor scenes. Family and friends gather together and provide numerous photo opportunities. So Christmas is the perfect time to take, scrap and preserve your memories in beautiful Christmas scrapbooks. This link will take you to my Christmas Scrapbooking Ideas.

Christmas Card Making

If you are already a card maker or just starting out, you might choose to make just your special cards for close family and friends, or all of your Christmas cards.

It is lovely to receive a handmade card, the feel and quality of them is so much better than shop bought cards.

A fun card to make is an easel box card, that incorporates a small pull out drawer. It can be filled with a small gift or a selection of treats - it is a gift and card in one package.

Christmas Gift Wrapping

Your creativity can run wild with Christmas gift wrapping. You can hand stamp your own wrapping paper, make gift boxes, gift bags, envelopes and tags.

If you create beautiful packaging and make your own gifts eg. bath bombs, soaps, jewellery, chocolates, cookies, preserves etc. your gift need not be expensive, but it will be unique and well received.

You could make a gift box on a theme and fill it with related goodies - for example a gardener's box created with botanical papers and filled with small gardening items - gloves, seed packets, string, plant ties etc.
