Christmas Scrapbooking Ideas

Are you looking for Christmas scrapbooking ideas? Here you can find a selection of ideas, tips and inspiration for your Christmas memory albums.

It doesn't have to be the holiday season for you to create your Christmas layouts and albums - you probably don't have time during the festivities anyway.

If you are like me you will find you have a stack of photos or images on your camera and computer after the festive period.

If you are new to scrapbooking you may have a box of photos from past Christmases, stretching back many years.

Ideas for scrapbooks

  • You can keep one large album specifically for your Christmas scrapbooking and add a few pages each year.
  • If you take a lot of photos you could make an album every year - if a 12 x 12" album is too big for your project try using an 8 x 8" album.
  • A mini scrapbook album created with photos from the previous Christmas would make a lovely gift for grandparents.
  • Try digital scrapbooking and you can send a digital layout or album to family and friends that live far away - it would make an imaginative alternative to a greetings card.

Tell the story of your Christmas

Take pictures of your: children, family, pets, gifts, tree, decorated home (inside and outside). Take photos of your Christmas morning, your festive meal and outdoor walks - especially if you are lucky enough to have a white Christmas.

Journal your Christmas memories and traditions. Record your thoughts and feelings from the run up to Christmas, through the festivities and into the New Year.

You could record any resolutions you make and review the past year in your scrapbook.

Include memorabilia collected at Christmas in your layouts, for example: gift tags, special cards, traditional family recipes, copies of letters sent to santa and any notes left by him, ribbons, gift wrap, cracker gifts and jokes.

Inspiration

Another way to provide inspiration for your layouts is to choose a title first and theme your page around it. Try one of the following titles:

  • Ho Ho Ho
  • Underneath the Mistletoe
  • All I want for Christmas…….
  • Naughty or Nice
  • Santa's Little Helper
  • Winter Wonderland
  • Deck the Halls
  • Jingle Bells
  • Twas the Night Before Christmas

I am sure you can think of more.

You could decorate your home with these Christmas scrapbooking ideas:

  • Create heavily embellished layouts and place them in 3D frames - another good gift idea.
  • Display your Christmas themed accordion albums on a mantel or shelf - they can then easily be shared with visiting family.
  • Make a robust layout in the style of an advent calendar with mini photos behind the flaps - it can be brought out and used every year.

Supplies

There are many beautiful themed Christmas scrapbooking papers and embellishments available to use.

You can also use your regular paper crafting materials or Christmas items such as cards, foam shapes, small decorations, stickers and ribbons that you can find in stores at Christmas (and discounted in the sales afterwards).

You can also make your own embellishments, like the paper trees in this layout.

The traditional Christmas colors, rich reds, greens and gold, work well on your Christmas pages, but also try the muted, pastel versions of these colours - the pastel pinks and greens. Ice blues and whites are particularly effective when used to scrap pictures with snowy scenes.

Use the opportunities at this special time of the year to make memories, take photographs and record them on the page or digitally and enjoy creating your albums using my Christmas scrapbooking ideas.
